We've been radio silent for the last couple of months, but we've been busy.

At Unpub, the one thing we heard over and over was, “You need to get your Kickstarter Preview up ASAP.” Since this is just a splash page with a Follow button, we figured this was something quick we could do in the lobby of the hotel before we left the conference. We couldn't be more wrong. You actually have a lot more of your final campaign nearly done before it can be approved.

Some of these dependencies meant getting Some Untitled Collective in order; Filing our LLC, setting up our bank account, finalizing our operating agreement, etc.

We are excited to report that our Kickstarter Preview page is now LIVE.

Things I Wish I’d Known Before Trying to Make a Kickstarter Preview Page

BANK DETAILS

This may not be an issue for folks going solo, but since we are a collective of 5 members, it wasn’t as easy as linking our personal Stripe account.

Before we could get started, we needed to establish our Collective bank account before we could make a Stripe account to link to Kickstarter.

CONTENT

Before you can get the Preview Page live, you actually need to have most of your content already created. Even though no one is going to see it in the Preview State, your content needs to be loaded in and approved by Kickstarter before you can move forward.

Here are all the pieces you need to have near-final before they’ll approve your Preview Page.

  • Basics: Project Title, Subtitle, Category, Project Image, Funding Goal, Duration

  • Rewards: Items and Reward Tiers

  • Story: Project Story, Risks and Challenges

Thankfully, we had a lot of these elements already thought out, but it took us awhile to translate everything to a format suitable for Kickstarter that they would approve.

APPROVAL

It’s not enough to load these sections with lorem ipsum or placeholder copy and images, this draft version of your Kickstarter will go to their team for review and approval. Anything half baked or seemingly sketchy will be sent back to you for revisions.

NOTE: Our biggest concern was that our page would be made public after we submitted these details, since we knew we absolutely wanted to go back in and tweak the copy and graphics. Rest assured, your project will NOT be public until you click I’m ready to launch.

Check out our Preview Page on Kickstarter and follow along for launch updates!
